If you have been a patient receiving treatment at St. Margaret’s Epping Breast Unit and have Secondary Lymphoedema in you arm, trunkal region, underarm area or hand then please contact the Specialist Breast Care Nurses to arrange an assessment.

If following your assessment, the Specialist Nurse feels that you are eligible and Manual Lymphatic Drainage would be beneficial for your condition then a referral will be made in order for you to receive treatment which would be funded by the N.H.S.

For all others including those out of the area or leg oedemas, to obtain treatment to be funded by your local Primary Healthcare Trust you need to be referred by your G.P. or Vascular Surgeon, usually treatment is granted for exceptional cases.

Nicole works for the local Primary Healthcare Trusts these include West Essex P.C.T., Redbridge N.H.S. and East & North Herts P.C.T’s.

If your G.P. puts a full history and patient contact details forward then usually the relevant P.C.T. will contact Nicole for an assessment.  This will determine how much treatment a patient is likely to need and the cost.  This is then assessed and permission for treatment to commence may be granted.  In cases that are not so severe patients should be referred to their local hospital to see the Appliance Officer for compression garment fitting.
